Executive summary

This is an updated edition of this report which was last published in October 2011.

- Of the 30 businesses in BSG’s B2B Online Media ranking, 18 are primarily finished goods sourcing platforms or online trade directories (e.g. Alibaba.com and Global Sources). There are an additional seven websites that are vertical industry websites. Three of the 30 are technology-focused trade publications and there is one general business title in the Top 30, Beijing-based, Caijing.

- Alibaba.com still holds the number one position, while Caijing.com.cn (#9) and TradeIndia.com (#10) moved up four and one positions, respectively to enter the Top Ten. Toocle.com (#12) and EC21.com (#13) dropped four and three spots respectively - and out of the Top Ten. The other big mover in the Top Ten was Made-in-China.com which fell four spots to seventh, while ITmedia.co.jp and ChinaByte.com both jumped three spots to third and fourth position.

- There are seven sourcing websites, two technology-focused and a general business site in the Top Ten. The Japanese tech portal, ITmedia.co.jp (#3) and ChinaByte.com (#4), a Chinese technology industry portal, are the only two IT and Internet websites in the Top Ten. Caijing.com.cn (#8) is the only general business site in the Top Ten.

- In this edition, Alibaba.com.cn (#20) and CIOL.com (#30) moved up 17 and five spots respectively. GongKong.com (#19), Weiki.com (#24) and GlobalMarket.com (#28) are new entries to the Top 30 in this edition, while GlobalSources.com.cn, ChuanDong.com, Netsun.com, Pharmnet.com.cn and Machine365.com exited the list.
