The field of flat-panel displays is experiencing a rapid growth which is currently expanding from initial portable computer applications to include display applications for desktop computers and a wide array of consumer and industrial products. The industrial focus has been focued on active matrix liquid-crystal displays (AMLCDs), and that is reflected in this volume where more than half of the papers are related to AMLCD technology. New emerging flat-panel display technologies, however, such as field emissive displays (FEDs) and new organic light-emitting display materials are also covered.
