Angola is the second-largest crude oil exporter in Sub-Saharan Africa, with China and India as the main export markets.

Angola continues to be heavily dependent on oil revenue. As a result, economic growth and fiscal balance will suffer owing to weak oil prices. However, in the light of US-Iran tensions, 2020 will see a small uptick in oil prices, which is likely to have a positive impact on export earnings in the short run.

We expect Angola's real GDP to fall by around 1.3% in 2020 owing mainly to lower oil production volumes. The Economist Intelligence Unit anticipates that the economy will strengthen during the forecast period, averaging around 3% a year, in the light of rising oil prices and non-oil activity improvement.
