Brazil’s Aerospace & Defense Industry in Michael Porter’s Five Forces Analysis.

The aerospace and defense industry in Brazil is one of the largest in South America. The company is well established and has many world class players that are competing in the global aerospace and defense industry. The defense industry in Brazil consists of world class aircrafts that incorporate weapon systems and other systems integration that is at par with developed economies. The Brazilian aerospace and defense industry is expected to witness substantial growth in coming years.

It uses concepts developed in Industrial Organization (IO) economics to derive five forces that determine the competitive intensity and therefore attractiveness of a market. Porter referred to these forces as the microenvironment, to contrast it with the more general term macro-environment. They consist of those forces close to a company that affect its ability to serve its customers and make a profit. A change in any of the forces normally requires a company to re-assess the marketplace.
