Ultra pure sulfuric acid (UPS) of high purity chemicals are used mostly in electronics industry for cleaning and etching applications of semiconductors and printed circuit boards (PCB). UPS is one of the major “wet” chemicals used in the production of semiconductors and the global market for semiconductors is booming. In addition to this, UPS also plays a significant role in the pharmaceuticals industry.

The UPS acid market can be classified into two grades such as, parts per trillion (ppt ) and parts per billion (ppb). The ppt is the highest grade of purity level and the UPS is a part of this grade. Since, only the highest grade of sulfuric acid with purity level can be used for the cleaning and etching purpose of semiconductors and IC's, this grade of UPS is the most sort among specialty wet chemical in the electronics industry. The purity level in ppb grade is lower than the PPT grade of ultra pure sulfuric acid. Therefore, the ppb graded UPS acid is expected to grow at a lower rate than the ppt graded UPS acid.

The demand for these UPS acid grades is influenced by the growing demand for technologically advanced, innovative, and sophisticated electronic devices. With the growing demand for electronic components, the market for semiconductors & ICs packaging materials is also expected to grow in the future. UPS acid grades are application specific and are available globally. As mentioned above, there are two different grades of UPS acid available in the market.
