Base Metals Mining in Canada to 2020

Summary

Canada had the 10th-largest reserves of nickel and seventh-largest of zinc globally, with 2.9 and 6.2 million tonnes (Mt) respectively.

Canadian nickel and lead mine production was 225,941 tonnes (t) and 321t in 2015 and is forecast to reach 273,071t and 24,666.9t in 2020 respectively. Zinc production was 263,209t in 2015 and is projected to decrease to reach 266,622t in 2020 compared with 271,800t in 2016.

Canadian zinc ores and concentrates exports were 102,088t in 2015 - up by 2.5% over 2014. Canada’s zinc industry is mainly export oriented, with South Korea being the largest market for the country’s zinc ores and concentrates exports.
