Current Trends and Future Demands for Stakeholders
The world is moving from "sick care" to "healthcare" and this trend has the made aged care market one of the most challenging and attractive markets in 2015. This market not only requires service providers who can run short-term and long-term care homes but also offers integrated opportunities for medical technologists like ICT and robotics companies, senior care furniture manufacturers, nutraceutical and pharmaceutical manufacturers, and real estate companies besides other supporting services.

Older people today are healthier, wealthier, and more active than in the past, making them a huge resource that countries must not waste. The market is growing, as nations are greying faster.

Healthcare plans (such as Medicare in the US) and care home services shall continue to pinch the low income groups or seniors with no pension (funding), as they may not affordable.

Long queues in not-for-profit (community, religious, and charitable homes) and government-run care homes and inadequate care facilities will lead to bigger issues for the society and government (Japan has already reported long queues for elders while China is moving towards an even worse scenario due to unpreparedness).

Seniors are choosing to move to aged cared homes due to socioeconomic needs and not purely medical requirements (care needs move beyond an excuse to medicalise the elder’s life in nursing homes).

Low-care and high-care models are expected to merge (Australia merged them in 2014, other nations will follow soon) and elders may choose between short-term and long-term stay in the future.

The spending power of seniors increases as the elderly population moves towards financial security (UK has maximum population of home owners with fixed assets who are above 50 years of age). Choice of retirement homes will become a major driver for customer-centric models in next - years, especially in Australia.

Preference for independent living is growing amongst the senior population who are medically fit. Smart homes with robots are expected to be the future of the aged care market.
