Prostrate Specific Antigen is secreted by epithelial prostatic cells. The primary function of PSA is to break down high molecular weight protein of the seminal coagulum into smaller polypeptides. The PSA is present in serum which is used to detect prostate cancer. There is a continuous circulation of PSA in the blood.
