A Semiconductor IP core or IP block is a reusable and licensable unit of either logic, chip layout design, cell. The licensee of the IP core pays a desired amount to the licensor on sale of product or other mutually agreed upon terms. Chip designers use huge chunks of semiconductor IP cores and functional blocks and construct new chips by modifying and improvising on earlier chip designs. Often more than 15 IP blocks are combined in one chip to create Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs), Application Specific Standard Products (ASSPs), and complete, (SoCs). These, in turn, are used in various electronic units of innumerable number of end user applications in various sectors such as mobile phones, smart phones, television desktop boxes, set-top boxes, digital cameras, MP3 players, automobile electronics, smart cards, hearing aids, heart monitors, and essentially anything that uses or processes information and data.

Demand & integration of power electronics in consumer electronics and connected devices such as TVs, smart phones, wearable, connected vehicles and others are fueling the growth of semiconductor IP across the globe. Consumer electronics held the lion’s share in semiconductor IP market. With the increasing processor application in smartphones, tablets, and other smart appliances the market is further augment the demand. Additionally, efficient, faster, and reliable processors, memory and interface products will further intensify the market demand in future.

The ‘Processor IP’ is likely to dominate in terms revenue share, however, it is expected to grow at the modest CAGR in forecast timeline. The growth is mainly accounted to the rapid integration of processors in consumer electronics. Conversely, ‘Memory IP’ is projected to grow at a significant pace owing to shift for high speed processing, and low power consumption.

Semiconductor IP Market is segmented according to core types which include soft IP, Hard IP cores, standard IP, custom IP and form factor and they were further classified and detail market study is performed in relation to Semiconductor IP market. Semiconductor IP market is segmented according to end users as communications, consumer electronics, medical, automotive, industrial, defense and others. Market is also segmented into geographic regions that include Americas, Europe, APAC and RoW where further classification is done based on prominent countries from this region.
