It is time for another edition of Europe’s heat pump markets and statistics report. We have worked a lot behind the scenes to improve the content of this edition even further. This resulted not only in a streamlined and more uniform presentation of data in the report, but will eventually lead to an interactive online database that allows the user to evaluate available data according to his/her personal requirements.

Including data from 21 European countries, the report has been prepared and structured in a way that it not only covers the different national statistics, but it also presents an overview for each market, presenting those factors mainly responsible for its development. This includes industrial and technical trends, the European as well as the national legislative frameworks and the organisational status of each market.

This publication is particularly useful for market analyst and European Affairs managers.

It is the most comprehensive European heat pump market report so far. All country reports were compiled in cooperation with national associations. This approach assures not only high-level quality data, but also provides valuable insights from the perspective of "industry locals".

The European heat pump market continues to grow slowly: 2014 is the third year of recovery with heat pump sales growing by roughly 3%. Initial data for 2015 shows that this trend is going to continue. We are optimistic that growth should accelerate further in the coming years, as a number of policy measures already in place, among them the energy label, highlight the benefit of heat pump technology for the energy transition. Heat pumps have an untapped potential both towards the renewable and the energy efficiency targets. Their proper recognition will help achieve the current targets but will also allow policy makers to announce more ambition.

It is high time to take brave political decisions that result to an acknowledgment of the benefits of heat pumps and to reimburse the technology for its positive contribution to energy efficiency, supply security and grid stability. Heat pumps can and should be a cornerstone of European energy policy, to the benefit of the individual and society at large.
