About 3D Medical Imaging Equipment

The FDA categorizes medical imaging as a technology used to visualize the human body for the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of medical conditions such as cancer and cardiovascular diseases. CT scan, MRI, X-ray, and ultrasound are some of the medical imaging techniques that use 3D technology for advanced imaging. These 3D technologies offer high-resolution imaging, as high as 80,000 voxel or volumetric pixel, which is tenfold more than 2D medical imaging. 3D medical imaging provides better imaging of the anatomy and tissues than 2D equipment, to aid in surgical procedures. Many medical facilities worldwide use mammography or 3D X-ray imaging to diagnose breast cancer.

The analysts forecast the global 3D medical imaging equipment market to grow at a CAGR of 5.58% during the period 2016-2020.

New Report Released: – Global 3D Medical Imaging Equipment Market 2016-2020

The author of the report recognizes the following companies as the key players in the Global 3D Medical Imaging Equipment Market: GE Healthcare, Hitachi Medical Corp., and Philips Healthcare.

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Analogic, ContextVision, EOS Imaging, Esaote, Fuel 3D Technologies, FUJIFILM Medical System, Gendex, Hologic, Imaging Sciences International, Intelerad Medical System, Intrasense, Mindray Medical International, Mithil Scans, J. Morita, Planmeca, Samsung Medison America, Shimadzu, Siemens Healthcare, Sirona, SOREDEX, Tomtec Imaging Systems, Toshiba Medical Systems, and Viking Systems.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “An emerging trend in the 3D imaging equipment market is the development of portable equipment. Early diagnosis of diseases is an important parameter for improved patient care and increased life expectancy. The availability of portable 3D medical imaging equipment has helped offer better medical outcomes. These systems are automated, versatile, and easy to use. These devices are also cost-effective compared to their non-portable counterparts. This also helps lower the overall cost of medical imaging. Many vendors are investing in the R&D of these portable 3D medical imaging systems.”

According to the report, a key driver of market growth is the use of 3D imaging in cardiology and oncology. In cardiology, heart valve replacement procedures are the most performed among other cardiovascular treatment options. Most heart valve replacement procedures such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement are minimally invasive methods. Surgeons face difficulty in positioning the new heart valve using conventional methods. They use 3D angiography imaging software for imaging the anatomy during the placement of the heart valves. A research study estimated that every year more than 320,000 individuals worldwide undergo heart valve replacement procedures. The study also estimates that this number will likely reach 800,000 by 2050. This rise in the volume of heart valve replacement procedures will increase the demand for 3D medical imaging equipment.

Further, the report states that one challenge that could adversely impact market growth is the availability of alternatives in imaging technology.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
