The author estimates that the domestic market for LIBs in China is valued at RMB 71.8 Bn, or USD 11.5 Bn, with a sales volume of 41.9 GWh of battery cells by the end of 2015. Their study found that the market will continue to experience substantial growth in the next few years, driven by China's push for electric cars and energy storage.

Recently the country’s government has issued several regulations and subsidies that raise market barriers and support domestic suppliers. Both Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) and Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide (NMC) batteries benefit from Electric Vehicle promotion and adoption. Lithium Cobalt Oxide Battery (LCO) and Lithium Manganese Oxide (LMO) product segments on the other hand have much lower growth due to a mixture of obsolescence, substitution, and downstream industry saturation.
