Ablation therapy is a minimally invasive procedure that is used to destroy unwanted tissue in a variety of cases. Ablation may be performed via probes, catheters or with energy beams. Most ablation technologies have a base unit and accompanying probes. Imaging machines help guide the surgeon to the problem area. Once the equipment reaches the desired area, the therapy is administered and the unwanted tissue is ablated (destroyed). Ablation allows a substantial reduction in recovery time and thus total hospital stay. Indications for ablation therapy are large and diverse. However, ablation procedures are basically divided into two types: those using heat and those using cold.
