About the Consumer and SMB NAS Market

Network- attached storage (NAS) is a low-maintenance, remotely manageable, server-based storage system that enables file sharing, multimedia streaming, and storing and sharing photos, music, and movies among users. It can also stream video content through smart TVs at home. It facilitates access to files through mobile devices that are connected to NAS appliances and offers high-performance storage compared to DAS (direct-attached storage) and external hard drives.

These systems are being used by individual consumers, small office and home office (SOHO), SMBs, SMEs, and large enterprises. Exabyte of storage capacity is being shipped worldwide every year by vendors, that are being to be used in NAS systems. The NAS systems was introduced with advanced features and benefits and with high-capacity storage than personal DAS and external portable drives.

The analysts forecast the global consumer NAS market to grow at a CAGR of 11.01% during the period 2016-2020.

New Report Released: – Global Consumer and Small and Medium-Sized Business (SMB) Network-Attached Storage (NAS) Market 2016-2020

The author of the report recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global consumer and SMB NAS market: Apple, Buffalo Technology, NETGEAR, QNAP, Seagate, Synology, and Western Digital.

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Asustor, Dell, D-Link, Drobo, HP, LeCie (Seagate), Thecus, Transporter, and Zyxel.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “A trend that is positively impacting the market is the emergence of hybrid storage arrays. Hybrid storage arrays include both flash drives and HDDs. They are most suitable for organizations that require exceptional performance for some applications and additional capacity for less critical applications at reduced cost. Few storage arrays also support hybrid arrays. The adoption of these NAS units is very less compared to HDD-based units. However, new systems are being designed with support for both HDDs and SSDs.”

According to the report, a key growth driver is the growing need for personal data backup. Along with business data, personal data is also growing at an exponential rate. This is because of the advances in many industries such as consumer electronics and entertainment. Social media is acting as a potent ingredient in innovation with regard to devices such as smartphones and tablets. Social media is helping in connecting family and friends living worldwide.

Further, the report states that one challenge that could restrict market growth is the availability of alternative storage systems. Every consumer owns a laptop or desktop at home, with a DAS of up to 2 TB storage capacity. On an average, 1 TB is sufficient for their use until the disk overflows with data and creates the need for extra storage. In this case, consumers are extending storage through the adoption of external hard drives.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
