About K-12 education

The growth in the school-age population in countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia has boosted enrollment rates in Southeast Asia. The improvement in income levels in most of the households has resulted in higher expenditure on education. While Singapore has become a provider of world-class education, education in countries such as Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam is still in its nascent stage. However, with the establishment of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2015, the quality of education provided should improve.

The analysts forecast the K-12 education market in Thailand to grow at a CAGR of more than 3% during the period 2016-2020.

New Report Announces the Publication of its Research Report – K-12 Education Market in Thailand 2016-2020

The author recognizes the following companies as the key players in the K-12 education market in Thailand: Bangkok Patana School, Harrow International School, NIST International School, and Ruamrudee International School.

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Berkeley International School, British International School, Concordian International School, Darasamuth Phuket School, HeadStart International School, International School Bangkok, KIS International School, and Phuket International Academy.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from Technavio’s team said: “One trend inciting growth in this market is the preference for mobile learning in Thailand. Thailand has a growing mobile technology ecosystem. As a result, education vendors can capitalize on the mobile technology due to measures being taken on the regulatory and pricing front, as well as initiatives related to local content generation.”

According to the report, one driver fostering growth in this market is the increase in expat population. Recent changes in the demography of the country have impacted the K-12 education market extensively. The population of Thailand has seen growth in the proportion of expats, which, apart from bringing cultural diversity to the country, is also impacting education due to their higher average income and spending. Twenty-seven percent of the expat population in Thailand consists of people who are employed as teachers, researchers, academic staff, and translators. Many expats are employed in the increasing number of international and private schools. This is leading to the growth of the education sector.

Further, the report states that the limitations of centralized education system will pose a challenge for the growth of this market. The education system in Thailand has always been largely controlled by states. Before the 1997 reform, district, regional, and provincial education administrators were appointed by the education permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education. This centralized education system was criticized for the poor quality of education in Thailand. Subsequently, reforms in the education system led to a more decentralized structure, which allowed the recruitment of personnel and administrators in schools in regions under the OBEC.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
