There has been considerable development in developing miniaturized versions of e-noses with the help of micro-electro-mechanical (MEMS) sensors. MEMS sensors have been able to address the challenges of different other sensors used in e-noses, thereby allowing the use of e-noses for a much larger range of applications through miniaturization.”

According to the report, a key growth driver is the ability to perform non-invasive diagnostics. Whenever a patient is admitted for a particular ailment, numerous diagnostic procedures are conducted on the patient to determine the reasons for the ailment. More often than not, these diagnostic procedures require some form of invasive measures, which could result in complications for the human body. In such cases, an e-nose can be used as the first level of diagnosis to determine if a patient has a particular ailment or not. E-nose manufacturers have touted the device as an indispensable supplementary tool for physicians.

Further, the report states that one challenge that could hamper market growth is the cost of e-noses.
