About the Scintillator Market

Scintillators are materials that possess the ability to absorb incident particles such as protons, electrons, and neutrons as well as high-energy photons such as X-rays and gamma rays. These materials convert the collected energy into a large number of visible photons or an ultraviolet range of photons. The conversion ensures easy detection by photomultipliers and photodiodes along with the efficient determination of energy and time of incident radiation. Scintillators are vital in radiation detection systems, with numerous applications in medical imaging, nuclear plants, manufacturing industries, high-energy particle experiments, and national security.

The analysts forecast the global scintillator market to grow at a CAGR of 5.68% during the period 2016-2020.

New Report Released: - Global Scintillator Market 2016-2020

The author of the report recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global scintillator market: Canberra Industries, Hamamatsu Photonics, Hitachi Metals, Ludlum Measurements, Mirion Technologies, Radiation Monitoring Devices, Saint-Gobain, and Zecotek Photonics.

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Argus Imaging, Rexon Components, Scintacor, SCINT-X, Siemens, and Toshiba Materials.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “A trend which has influenced market growth is the increased use of plastic scintillators in applications requiring high performance. Plastic scintillators are largely used for low-cost, low-performance applications. However, according to a recent study, plastic scintillators can be used for high-performance applications at low cost. For instance, research carried out at Lawrence Livermore National Lab resulted in the creation of a new polyvinyl toluene-based material. This new development has been successfully transferred to Eljen Technologies for commercial production. The new material, which combines polyvinyl toluene with a high concentration of scintillating dye, can distinguish between neutrons and gamma rays.”

According to the report, a key growth driver is the advances in medical technology. Advances in radiographic system technology have resulted in the development of new radiation sources, detector technology, and a number of new imaging technologies using neutrons and X-rays. Radiographic system technology is used in routine examinations of chest, neck or spine, and limbs; specialty services such as dental and mammography; and emergency services such as ICU, Neonatal ICU, and hospital wards. The shift from analog to digital X-rays has resulted in the development of new radiation-based imaging techniques. The introduction of flat-panel computed radiography in X-ray machines has increased their efficiency and imaging quality.

Further, the report states that one challenge that could hamper market growth is the decline in the number of nuclear plants in Europe and Japan.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
