About Lane Departure Warning Systems (LDWSs)

LDWS are designed to help drivers reduce the number of unintended lane departures. Such systems help drivers to focus on driving and avoid accidents that may result from lack of attention or drowsiness. Many single vehicle departure crashes take place in light traffic situations and good weather conditions. LDWS warn drivers every time they unintentionally drift from their lane. The system works by detecting the vehicle position with respect to road lane markings and evaluates the position of the vehicle with the help of a camera system mounted on the windshield. The system is geared to warn the driver but does not initiate automatic action to prevent lane departures.

The analysts forecast the global LDWS market to grow at a CAGR of 28.67% during the period 2016-2020.

New Report Released: – Global Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) Market 2016-2020

The author of the report recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global lane departure warning system (LDWS) market: Bosch, Continental, Denso, and Delphi.

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Magna International, Autoliv, Mobileye, ZF TRW, and WABCO.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “Technology advancements in ADAS will be one of the key trends in this this market. ADAS works to enhance vehicle safety by simplifying the driving process and reducing sources of driver distraction. With ADAS support, a driver can find safer roads that help to avoid accidents. ADAS is capable of reducing instances of road mishaps and requires a combination of features to do so. For developers, the future of ADAS lies in five key trends— automotive systems infrastructure, automotive human machine interface (HMI) design, connectivity, embedded vision, and sensors.”

According to the report, one driver augmenting growth is the growing safety awareness among end-users. Currently, customers accord more importance to safety features rather than the cost of the vehicle. Growing concern about passenger safety has compelled many automobile manufacturers to implement driver assistance systems. A focus on integration of passive safety systems with active safety systems (especially ACC, AEBS, BSD, LDWS, and NVS) is also increasing. LDWS represent one of the prominent safety features, which is being increasingly adopted in new vehicles.

Further, the report states that numerous functional issues will negatively affect this market’s growth prospects during the forecasted period. An effective LDWS will need to function irrespective of the lane boundary type. These problems will reduce the efficiency of these systems. In some cases, these problems can lead to false alarms or no alarms at all when the lane is changed without indicators. LDWS go through certain performance tests like warning generation test on curves, a repeatability test on a straight course, and tests for false alarms, to make them more effective.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
