This research service is similar to the study on defence contractors with the focus now on commercial aerospace. Data is given for the 2005-2014 period, while analysis provided goes beyond these 10 years. New companies have been added to better reflect the commercial aerospace market participants. Companies with a diverse range of specialties have been covered such as the main OEMs, the prime engine manufacturers, and avionics and aerostructure suppliers.

The study also highlights the relationships and partnerships between some of the market participants and provides insights on the impact of the cost reduction plans within the supply chain. In addition, a brief analysis of the deliveries and orders has been provided for air transport, regional, and business jet aircraft.

After covering 15 major defence contractors, in a previous study, the author has selected 18 publicly traded companies which are active in the commercial aerospace arena. Eighteen firms are covered, 7 of which have already been included in the defence study (Airbus, Boeing, General Dynamics, Honeywell, Rolls Royce, Textron, and UTC). However, new information is now being given related to their activities in the commercial aerospace sector.

- This 10-year (2005-2014) competitive analysis includes information such as market presence, financial performance, and major merger and acquisition (M&A) activities.

- Using common analytical parameters, the study compares the selected companies by using strategic positioning and mapping to assess performance.

- This study is an introduction to the larger analytical programme is developing on the aerospace and defence competitors.

- The commercial aerospace domain includes air transport aircraft, regional aircraft, business aviation, general aviation, and commercial helicopter*. When one of these subdomains has been excluded, an indication has been given.

- Firms covered in this study operate in different domains such as avionics (Honeywell, Rockwell Collins, and so on), aircraft interiors (Zodiac Aerospace, B/E Aerospace, and so on), OEMs of air transport, regional, and business jets (Airbus, Boeing, General Dynamics, Dassault, Embraer, Bombardier, Textron, and so on), system suppliers (Curtiss-Wright, Triumph Group, Cobham, and so on), and aerostructure
