GCC has negligible production of cereals and other agriculture products. Water constraints and unavailability of agriculture land are the major constraints in crop production in GCC. Consumption is increased of all the crops and it will grow at a CAGR of XX.XX % CAGR till 2020. Imports are also increased in GCC.

The Bahrain government has helped numerous projects recently, which is a new approach to boost food security in the kingdom by focusing on the agriculture sector. The major challenge of the agricultural sector in Kuwait is to maximize land and water productivity without degrading the environment and natural resource base. The Oman government started an agricultural and fisheries development fund in 2012, financed 25 projects, in addition to the adoption of 28 new projects and continuing to fund 26 more projects. Qatar is hoping to boost its food security by setting up 1,400 agricultural farms covering an area of 45,000 hectares. UAE Ministry of Environment and Water (MoEW) plans to increase Organic Farming acreage by 5% a year.

Drivers:

GCC Agriculture Market is developing due to Increase in consumption, advanced technologies, low water requirement in Horticulture process and Government Initiatives. GCC is using Desalination for potable drinking water, which helped the country to increase agriculture production. Horticulture is the new trend in agriculture production that has given boost to the production. Most of the Agriculture land belongs to Kings of GCC. Government is giving free land, free pesticides, seeds, water, machinery etc. to farmers for agri production.

Restraints:

GCC is a net importer of food products. Low ground and surface water availability, limited rainfall, limited arable land and low production are the biggest restraints for agriculture production in GCC.
