According to the report, one of the key drivers for market growth will be increased use of wireless technology for kiln shell scanners. Previous data collection methods that involved manual inspection with handheld thermometers and pyrometers were highly inefficient and potentially dangerous to human personnel. On the other hand, wireless technology can be placed at closed proximity, which increases human personnel safety and collects accurate real time data. Use of such technology is now being increasingly preferred by end-users. Online permanent systems are more beneficial as they provide continuous coverage and data of kilns essential for production processes and makes it more accessible to personnel.

Further, the report states that availability of alternate kiln shell thermal monitoring systems will be a challenge for the market. Thermal imaging scanners are commonly used for kiln shell monitoring; however, they have certain disadvantages. Though a single scanner unit is capable of monitoring an entire 60 m rotary kiln, it is a large system, which makes it unsuitable for small spaces and needs correct placement at the right distance with full visibility. Often objects such as secondary air tubes obstruct the view of the scanners. In contrast, thermal imaging cameras are compact, lightweight, and can be installed in multiple locations. Hence, they are especially preferred in limited space installations. If a 90-degree lens is used, three such imaging cameras would be required to provide coverage of 60 m rotatory kiln. However, multiple cameras are cheaper than a single shell scanner installation. Hence, thermal imaging cameras are a potential threat to the kiln shell scanner market.
