Acetaldehyde is an organic compound which is an aldehyde. Acetaldehyde occurs naturally and is also produced on a large scale commercially. Natural sources of the compound include bread, fruits, and plants. Acetaldehyde is primarily used in the production of numerous chemical compounds such pentaerythritol, acetic acid, acetic anhydrideand pyridine. The market for acetaldehyde is driven by the downstream markets that use the compound as a key raw material or ingredient in the final product. The APAC region is expected to be the leading contributor to the acetaldehyde market during the forecast period, however, the overall market for acetaldehyde is estimated to grow at a slow rate since many of the downstream products are expected to be manufactured or produced with alternatives.

In terms of demand, the APAC market will be the key market in terms of demand for acetaldehyde. The demand in the region is driven by the need for several chemical compounds which require acetaldehyde for their production. Peracetic acid is one such chemical which is in large demand especially in China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. These are markets which have a large user base and will continue to do so during the forecast period.

Further to this, there has been a growth in the food and beverage industry across the globe, especially in South America and Africa. Countries such as Argentina and Brazil are leading contributors to the food and beverage market and have heavily invested in water treatment processes, all of which require acetaldehyde. South Africa and Saudi Arabia are another two regions which have contributed to the overall growth of the acetaldehyde market due to regions focus on the development of the food and beverages industry. The demand comes from the export requirement of food and beverages from these regions. The high population in all of these countries and regions is the primary driver for the growth in the acetaldehyde market which companies operating in the market are aware of and are further investing in these high potential markets. North America and Europe will also contribute to the overall market, however these are mature markets and hence, the growth expected from these regions will be lower in comparison to the APAC and African regions.

The market has been segmented on the basis of the manufacturing process that include Liquid-phase oxidation of ethylene, Ethanol, Acetylene hydration and Others. Acetaldehyde has found application in a range of end-user segments and this report has covered the following applications Food and Beverage, Pulp and Paper Bleaching, Water Treatment, Medical, Agriculture and Others.
