Selective Compliance Assembly Robot Arms (SCARA) robots are used mainly in the manufacturing sector along the assembly line. They are used for applications such as packaging, loading and unloading, pick and place, fabrication and material handling applications. The reason for this is the fact that SCARA robots are horizontally configured robots and do not have rotary joints. Movements of a SCARA robot are only along the horizontal axis.

SCARA robots are associated with high precision and accuracy and hence are very popular with manufacturing operations in the food and beverage, semiconductor and electronics, automotive industries, to name a few. SCARA robots also have the added benefits of high speed, durability and ruggedness. These robots can be used in conjunction with vision sensors and can also be used for inspection and testing. This translates to SCARA robots not only providing fast production but also be responsible for quality control as well. Competition for SCARA robots includes the Articulated and Cartesian robots.

The global SCARA robot market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 7% from 2016 to 2021. Technological advances are giving way to advanced SCARA robots that have added functionalities that makes them even more lucrative to adopt.

The elctronics and automotive application segments till date have been the highest adopters of SCARA robots. Over the course of the forecast period, this trend will still hold, but other applications such as Food and Beverage are alos increasingly adopting this technology. In terms of applications, the SCARA Robot market has been segmented across the following Electronics, Food & Beverage, Pharmaceutical, Rubber and Plastic, Metal Fabrication, Heavy Machinery, Automotive and Others.

In terms of geographical strongpoint, the asia pacific region accounts for the largest share of the SCARA robots market in terms of both revenue as well as unit shipments. This can be attributed to the growing economies of China and some of the south east asian nations. North America and Europe will also account for a significant share of the overall SCARA robot market. Technological advances continue in these regions owing the amount of funding being invested in research and development. The market has been segmented based on the following geographies North America, South America, APAC, Europe, Middle East and Africa.

The SCARA robots market is highly fragmented in terms of the number of players in the market. Following are just a few of the companies that are operating in the SCARA Robot market:
