2-ethylhexanol is a solvent for a number of compounds some of which include fats, dyes and insecticides. While this colorless and clear liquid is insoluble in water, it is discolves well in organic solvents. Several chemicals are manufactured using 2-ethylhexanol which in turn find use is a myriad of industries. It is a key ingredient for the manufacturing of other substances as well such as plasticizers and lubricants. The chemical also has applications in coatings and in manufacturing industries. 2-Ethylhexanol is produced through the aldol condensation of n-butyraldehyde with the hydrogenation of the resulting hydroxyaldehyde. More than 200,0000 tons can be prepared in this way annually. 2-ethylhexanol is also used as an octane booster. One of the major drivers of the 2-ethylhexanol market is the need for chemicals across a range of industries. Also, the emission norms are fuelling the need for high perfomance fuels which translates to the growth of the 2-ethylhaxanol market.

As of 2015, the APAC region has accounted for the largest share in terms of consumption of 2-ethylhexanol. More than 50 % of the global consumption was from the APAC region. In terms of consumption by product, plasticizers accounted for more than 60 % of the 2-ethylhexanol which was consumed in 2015. The plasticizers consumption of 2-ethylhexanhol is expected to grow at a CAGR of at least 4 to 5 % till the end of the forecast period. In Europe, close to 40% of the total 2-ethylhexanol demand comes from 2-ethylheanol acrylate manufacturers.

2-Ethylhexanol has found application in a range of end-user segments and this report has covered the following applications

2-Ethylhexanol Nitrate

In terms of consumption, the Asia Pacific region currenlty accounts for the maximum share with China being the undisputed leader in the region. The demand for chemicals used in adhesives and paints in North America and Europe is the key driver for both these region. Markets in the Middle East and Africa are expected to have the highest growth rate during the forecast period considered for this report. The market has been segmented based on the following geographies
