The science of calibrating and utilizing physical measurement systems or devices to measure the physical size of an object or measure the distance from any given object is called dimensional metrology. The shop-floor CMMs are classified into inline and semi-inline CMMs. Inline CMMs are used for high-speed inspection of manufactured products. In semi-inline CMMs, the manufactured product is placed on the CMM for measuring.

According to the report, increased demand from automotive industry is a key driver aiding to the growth of this market. Financial services are one of the most data-intensive industries. CMMs are used for measuring the dimension, angle, profile, and depth of different objects ranging from small components to large components such as piston rings, brake discs, and automobile panels.
