Automotive suspension technology has seen evolution from the use of conventional spring and dampening systems that use coil springs and gas shock absorbers to the use of adaptive and active suspension systems that employ either hydraulic fluid or electronics for operation. Advanced suspension systems now feature an integrated control unit that includes an automatic dampening controller for each wheel.

Further, the report states that reliability issues and difficult diagnostics processes will be a major challenge for the market. It has been found that due to the complexity in design of the electronically-controlled suspension systems, it usually becomes a tedious job for the mechanic to perform repair or replacement work.
