This market includes mydriatic and non-mydriatic fundus cameras. Each of the segments are then further divided into table mounted and handheld devices. Fundus cameras that were combined with OCT’s were counted in the OCT Chapter of this report. The persistent growth of the market is partly because the ever-increasing prevalence of age-related ocular conditions, such as glaucoma and macular degeneration, will drive demand for ocular diagnostic tools, such as fundus cameras. Non-mydriatic cameras held the largest share of the market. By 2023, this segment will decrease due to the growth in handheld mydriatic fundus camera sales.

The prevalence of glaucoma and retinal diseases increases with age. Because Europeans are living longer and birth rates are generally low, there is a shift towards an older average age in many European countries. The older population is sparking demand for diagnostic tools for age-related diseases. Fundus cameras fall into this category, as they are applied for the diagnosis of a wide variety of eye diseases.

Fundus cameras, which are also known as retinal cameras, are low powered microscopes coupled with a camera. Fundus cameras are used for diagnosing and tracking the progression of ocular diseases affecting the fundus, such as macular degeneration and glaucoma.
