About Alcohol Testing Equipment

Alcohol testing equipment is used to determine the blood alcohol concentration from a test sample of a person. It is largely used by law enforcement agencies and hospitals worldwide. Alcohol detection breath analyzers/breathalyzers, urine testing kits, and saliva test equipment are widely used for the purpose of detecting alcohol concentration in the blood. The breathalyzer device is commonly used for estimating BAC from a breath sample. Breathalyzers do not measure BAC directly, as it involves the person's blood sample. Instead, these devices estimate BAC by measuring the amount of alcohol present in one's breath.

The analysts forecast the global alcohol testing equipment market to grow at a CAGR of 24.29% during the period 2016-2020.

New Report Released: - Global Alcohol Testing Equipment Market 2016-2020

The author of the report recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global alcohol testing equipment market: Alcohol Countermeasure Systems, Drägerwerk, and Lifeloc Technologies.

Other prominent vendors in the market are: Akers Biosciences, Alere, AlcoPro, BACtrack, C4 Development, EnviteC, Guth Laboratories, Intoximeters, MPD, PAS Systems, Quest Products, RDI, and Toshiba Medical Systems.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “One of latest trends in the market is rising popularity of advanced breathalyzers. The governments of various countries are strictly enforcing road safety laws to prevent road accidents caused by drunk driving, which is fueling the development of new devices that can help to avoid road accidents caused by alcohol consumption. This has resulted in the rising popularity of devices with BAII technology, which are incorporated into vehicles to measure the BAC of the driver and only allow the vehicle to start if the content is below a certain set point. In the US, if an individual's breath sample registers alcohol content of 0.02% or more, they cannot start their vehicle. Several such products are currently offered by key vendors in the market.”

According to the report, one of the primary drivers in the market is increasing drunk driving fatalities. The driver should be alert, attentive, and have the ability to make a quick decision while driving. This is majorly impaired if the driver is drunk. As alcohol does not require digestion and is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream, it immediately affects the drinker. The judgment power of the person is impaired and thus they can be a threat to road safety. Under the influence of alcohol, the driver tends to take more risks, becomes a potential threat on the roads.

Further, the report states that one major challenge in the market is health risks associated with breathalyzers. Law enforcement agencies often use a variety of tools to determine if a driver's level of intoxication is within the legal limit to reduce the risk of DUI. Breathalyzers are the most commonly used devices to test the BAC in such instances. In most developing countries where there is less awareness about the need for hygiene, the breathalyzers used by government authorities are either unhygienic, unsterilized, or used multiple times over a short span of time without changing the mouthpiece. Most developed countries have switched to breathalyzers with a disposable mouthpiece, which may increase running costs for the authorities but is a much safer option for the individuals who are undergoing the tests. The repeated use of the same mouthpiece in breathalyzers could result in a tested individual becoming infected with communicable diseases such as tuberculosis, hepatitis, and even human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This may serve as a temporary setback to the growth of the global breathalyzer market during the forecast period.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
