The Global Business Jet Market is poised to grow at a CAGR of over 5.84% during 2017-2022. Business jets control the largest share in the general aviation market by revenue.  The economic crisis of 2008 had greatly impacted the business jet market and sales had slumped , but the market has recovered smartly since then and in 2015/16 the annual sales of business jets eclipsed the high which was achieved in 2008.

Due to rising incomes globally, business jets especially light and very light category ones have become in reach and business jet have ceased to be the domain of only the ultra rich. Time share and fractional ownership programs have enabled more people to own a jet. Most popular light business jets can be purchased in the range of $ 4 million, which has expanded their customer base. The biggest restraint but which is affecting the sale of Business Jets especially in the regions of South America, Africa and Asia Pacific is the severe lack of infrastructure to support a business jet. Even if the infrastructure is available then , the expenses are prohibitively expensive, which makes an operation based on Business Jets unfeasible.

Hence, in case of Business Jets it is seen that close to 3/4th of the sale is centered in the developed regions of North America and Europe. The rest of the regions are highly underpenetrated and it is these regions which will show massive rates of growth in future and drive the business jet market. India is one of the most promising markets for business jet. The main problem there is the strict regulatory framework by its regulatory agency DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation), which has a very strict framework and policy regulations on private jet ownerships , even by charter companies. But the situation there is changing, and India along with China will be the leaders of this market post 2020.

The Gulfstream 500/550/650 series are one of the most popular business jets globally and 117 of the jets were sold globally which was one of the highest for any type. But going into the future, light jets and very light jets can become one of the largest sellers, an example of this has been shown by the Cessna Citation M2 which has sold 100 aircraft just 2 years since its certification.
