New Report Released: - Beer Market in Europe 2016-2020

The author of the report recognizes the following companies as the key players in the beer market in Europe: Anheuser-Busch InBev, Carlsberg, Heineken, OETTINGER, and Radeberger

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Asahi Breweries, Beck's Brewery, Bitburger Brewery, Boston Beer, Budweiser Budvar Brewery, Cesu alus, Chimay Peres Trappistes, D.G. Yuengling & Son, Duvel Moortgat, ERDINGER Weissbier, FORST, Krombacher, Molson Coors, Oakleaf Brewery, Paulaner Brewery, Pivovarna Laško, Royal Unibrew, Švyturys, Veltins, and Warsteiner

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “Beer is the third most popular drink after water and tea in Europe. A key factor driving growth of beer consumption in Germany is the health benefit associated with beer. Consumption of beer in stipulated amounts helps reduce the risk of developing kidney stones and has other health benefits. Elevated levels of silicon in beer facilitate development of stronger bones and increased bone density. Beer also provides other health benefits such as reducing the occurrence of intestinal transit by aiding digestion.”

According to the report, popularity of craft beers is rising in Germany and other European countries and is growing rapidly. It is highly demanded by young urban consumers valuing the local origin of these products. The craze for craft beer is rising with increase in variety of beer and microbreweries. In Germany, there are around 1,300 breweries involved in making about 5,000 varieties of beer. In Berlin, there are more than 20 microbreweries engaged in the production of craft beer. The rise in demand for craft beer in Germany is highly influenced by the US. A brewing company in Berlin, Lemke, is adopting American-style logo to promote its beer. The low penetration of craft beer in Germany is related with the purity law drafted for the local brewers. According to this, beer can only be made of four items: malted barley, hops, water, and yeast. While foreign producers can have added ingredients like rice and sugar. Keeping the law in concern, most of the brewers in Germany, including Lemke, produce drinks in adherence to purity law. The number of craft breweries in Europe has increased by more than 80% during the past five years.

Further, the report states that the campaigns against alcohol consumption by various organizations in several countries are another challenge that is hindering the market growth. The increasing incidence of alcohol abuse and alcohol-related accidents, especially among the younger population, has led to many regulatory and social organizations launching campaigns against alcohol consumption and vendors to prevent this. For instance, many foundations like Mothers against Drunk Driving, the American Medical Association, and the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse are engaged in discouraging alcohol consumption in the US. This is affecting the demand for alcohol in the country. Vendors also often face charges or are involved in lawsuits that damage their image. Vendors need to engage in social responsibility programs like those against drunk driving and abuse to avoid such campaigns and to build goodwill in the market.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
