About Nacelle Mounted LIDAR Systems Market for Wind Industry

Nacelle LIDAR is used to measure the wind speed and the direction of the wind directly ahead of the turbine. Although it is installed on the nacelle, it can measure the wind without being affected by the turbine. The main purpose of the installing nacelle LIDAR is for integration for turbine control and as a retrofit for independently measuring and optimizing the performance of the turbine to increase the AEP.

The analysts forecast the global nacelle mounted LIDAR systems market for wind industry to grow at a CAGR of 6.76% during the period 2017-2021.

New Report Released: - Global Nacelle Mounted LIDAR Systems Market for Wind Industry 2017-2021

The author of the report recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global nacelle mounted LIDAR systems market for wind industry: Leosphere, SgurrEnergy, Windar Photonics, and ZephIR Lidar.

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Epsiline, Pentalum Technologies, AXYS Technologies, Avent Lidar Technology, and Mitsubishi Electric.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “The latest trend gaining momentum in the market is favorable policy environment for energy transition. Governments worldwide are realizing the potential and long-term benefits of utilizing wind energy. Within renewable energy, hydropower has been the most utilized. However, last few years have been marked by drastic weather changes in different parts of the world. Many countries have been struggling with ongoing droughts. This has made the governments to diversify their energy mix further.”

According to the report, one of the major drivers for this market is growing adoption of LIDAR technology. The need to diversify the energy mix as a measure to decrease the dependence on fossil fuel and to control the CO2 emissions has led to the constant addition of wind energy. Before the wind farm is selected, developers check the wind resource availability and its potential. Wind power developers are using newer remote sensing technologies such as LIDAR that provide an accurate and reliable estimation of the wind yield.

Further, the report states that one of the major factors hindering the growth of this market is high cost of implementation. Nacelle LIDAR is a relatively new technology. Wind measurements have been carried out by met masts for over the past 30 years. They are relatively less expensive when compared to nacelle LIDAR; a lattice 80m met mast cost about $85,000 over a two-year life cycle whereas a nacelle LIDAR can cost upward of $100,000. One of the main purposes of the adoption of LIDAR is for correcting the yaw misalignment and measuring the wind resources.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
