About Commercial Aircraft Avionics Systems

Avionic systems are a combination of electro-mechanical and electronic systems, which allow effective operation of aircraft. Each avionic system depends on electronic devices for its functioning. For instance, the fly-by-wire control system depends on digital computers for its operation. Avionic systems provide pilots with data such as aircraft altitude, airstream incidence, and air speed using air data sensors, aircraft motion using accelerometers, control stick sensor assembly, and rate gyros. Avionics include communication systems, cockpit display systems, control and monitoring systems, navigation systems, and other electro-mechanical arrangements.

The analysts forecast the global commercial aircraft avionics systems market to grow at a CAGR of 6.39% during the period 2017-2021.

New Report Released: - Global Commercial Aircraft Avionics Systems Market 2017-2021

The author of the report recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global commercial aircraft avionics systems market: Cobham, Honeywell International, Rockwell Collins, and Thales.

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Curtiss-Wright, Elbit Systems, Garmin, GE Aviation, L-3 Communications, Universal Avionics Systems, and Zodiac Aerospace.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “One trend in market is emergence of SVAB system. The emergence of the SVAB system is propelling the market growth with new investments and R&D developments. This system is anticipated to be integrated with the commercial aircraft for effective and safe operations. In 2014, Honeywell International along with US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), developed the synthetic vision avionics backbone (SVAB) system. This system was integrated into the Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk. The test was conducted by operating the rotorcraft in an adverse visual environment.”

According to the report, one driver in market is advent of new avionic systems. The aviation industry is highly regulated by organizations such as FAA, EASA, and ICAO. The primary goal of these organizations is to ensure safety to passengers, cargo, and crew. Thus, the role of automation has come into act. Automation enhances flight operational safety and aircraft efficiency while reducing the operating cost. This is particularly critical for commercial airlines, which support millions of air travelers. Currently, all the aircraft are equipped with highly efficient avionic systems such as autopilots; communications, navigation and surveillance systems; and electrical emergency systems.

Further, the report states that one challenge in market is challenges with high degrees of automation. With the growing technological advancements in avionic systems, there are few challenges faced by the manufacturers and operators. The primary challenge is the cost associated with the avionic systems as they are highly automated, the other major challenge is the growing dependence of airline crew on these automation systems. While the autopilot system is widely approved, the high cost associated with it became a major challenge for the airlines. Installing or upgrading an autopilot system is one of the complex, expensive, and time-consuming avionics processes. Depending on their installations, autopilot systems interface with multiple systems like flight control systems, engine control systems, and electrical systems.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
