Anti-reflective coatings play an important role in a wide range of applications including vision lenses, flat panel display screens, plastic lenses, and building facades among others. The primary benefit offered by these coatings and surfaces is to improve vision clarity and overall aesthetics in places where they are installed. By principle, they reduce or eliminate reflection from the surface on which they are applied. Depending on the application, these coatings have to be tuned to offer anti-reflection over a broad-spectrum of wavelength. Stakeholders in end-use industries such as semiconductors, eye-wear, automotive, and solar cell manufacturers are driving material companies to develop new coatings and surface technologies that offer desired anti-reflection performance at minimum thickness and be applied using a simple application process. In this issue of Advanced Coatings and Surface Technology TOE, recent advancements in research projects that have aimed at developing new approaches to anti-reflective surfaces have been profiled.

The Advanced Coating & Surface Technology TechVision Opportunity Engine (TOE) provides intelligence on technologies, products, processes, applications and strategic insights on various coatings across industries. This encompasses protective and functional coatings such as antimicrobial coatings, food coatings, energy-saving coatings, smart glazing, hydrophilic, hydrophobic and super hydrophobic coatings, corrosion protection coatings, barrier coatings and paints.

The Chemicals and Advanced Materials cluster tracks research & innovation trends and developments across specialty chemicals, plastics, polymers, chemicals, bio-chemicals, metals, coatings, thin films, surface treatments, composites, alloys, oil and gas, fuel additives, fibers and several other related technologies and its impact and application across industries. Keywords: Anti-reflective coatings, solar cells, semiconductor, hard mask, windshields, eye-wear, nanostructures, moth-eye
