New Report Released: – Global Electronic Goods Packaging Market 2017-2021

The author of the report recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global electronic goods packaging market: DS Smith, International Paper, Mondi, Sealed Air, and Smurfit Kappa.

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Dunapack Packaging, Georgia Pacific, Graham Packaging, Pregis, Sonoco, Stora Enso, Unisource Worldwide, Universal Protective Packaging, and WestRock.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “One trend in market is demand for innovative lightweight materials. Supply chain efficiency in terms of reduced cost and effective storage are critical to the vendors in the market. Lightweight packaging offers both, thus gaining traction in the market. Vendors are providing high-performance, lightweight corrugated, and containerboard grades because of cost reduction, better performance, and environmental concerns. For instance, in 2014, MWV Rigesa (now WestRock) launched the HyPerform line of Kraftliner and fluting paper, which is more tamper-proof and has a lower basis weight. This product is eco-friendly, ensuring a reduction of 10% in greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and of 61% in water consumption. MeadWestvaco Rigesa (WestRock) also acquired a new paper machine that uses the most advanced technology in the production of Kraftliner paper to provide innovative products. Mondi, an international packaging company, invested in the recycled containerboard machine ECO7, which produces cost-effective and lightweight liners and flutings, with an annual production capacity of 470,000 tons. Earlier, Mondi introduced ProVantage, a high-fiber containerboard made from recycled fiber, which is lightweight and provides high-strength packaging.”

According to the report, one driver in market is increase in production capacity in the market. The increase in production capacity helps to meet the demand in the market, thus maintaining a stage of equilibrium or excess supply. The procurement managers in end-user industries can rest assured as an excess supply will lead to stable prices of corrugated packaging products. The production capacity of vendors can be measured in terms of production in tons. The market will experience a rapid increase in production capacity as vendors are adopting advanced methods of production. Many vendors such as WestRock, Georgia-Pacific, and Pratt are increasing their production capacity through the development of new production plants or the acquisition of existing players. The increase in capacity will allow vendors to meet the demand for packaging and also reach out to emerging markets.

Further, the report states that one challenge in market is rise in cost of raw materials. Volatility in the prices of raw materials and growing demand-supply disparity among suppliers and manufacturers are expected to hinder the market in the long term. The increase in the cost of raw materials such as kraft paper is a major challenge for the market. Kraft paper accounts for 75% of the total input cost in the manufacture of corrugated boxes; moreover, paper mills have increased the price of kraft paper by 15% since 2014, thereby increasing the cost of production. The market has also witnessed negative returns and vendors were unable to shift the rising cost to consumers. Hence, an increase in the cost of raw materials has led to reduced profit margins for vendors. In addition, the manufacturing of corrugated boxes requires capital-intensive machinery, which adds to the manufacturing costs. In response to the volatility in the prices of raw materials, several vendors in the market have increased the price of corrugated boxes.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
