Private tutoring is a part of the shadow education system, as it is offered outside the mainstream education system. The private tutoring industry has emerged following the extensive standardization of the education sector. This standardization essentially refers to the provision of examination preparation services to students to help them score well in entrance tests. Traditionally, private tutoring service providers employed the classroom teaching methods. However, advances in technology and growing awareness among consumers about modern methods of learning have necessitated the incorporation of the Internet and digital methods into the teaching process.

The analysts forecast the private tutoring market in China to grow at a CAGR of 11.31% during the period 2017-2021.

New Report Released: - Private Tutoring Market in China 2017-2021

The author of the report recognizes the following companies as the key players in the private tutoring market in China: Xueda Education, TAL Education, Ambow Education, and New Oriental.

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Juren Education Group, Manhattan Review, iTutorGroup, EF Education First, MandarinRocks, Web International English, Kaplan, Xiaozhan Jiaoyu, and Tutors in China.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “One trend in market is increasing demand for mobile learning. The increase in the adoption of mobile phones and tablets by the students and parents has led to the rise in popularity of m-learning methods. There are myriad apps that are readily used by students and teachers for uninterrupted communication and information sharing. Market growth is being driven by the increasing use of mobile devices for learning and training purposes, which has increased the role of telecommunications and other private players in the education sector.

A huge population presents a huge student base for mobile-based tutoring services. Consequently, this has increased the scope for private tutoring service providers who want to introduce m-learning services for their users. These factors will widen the acceptance of tutoring products and services accessed via mobile devices among the end-users. In addition, many tutoring service providers are implementing the following education technology solutions to enhance the learning process.”

According to the report, one driver in market is growing enrollment in graduate schools. An increase in the number of enrollments in graduate schools is directly related to the number of students enrolling for tutoring services. According to China's Ministry of Education, the number of students enrolled in higher education has increased dramatically. In the early 1990s, the enrollment growth rate in higher education was over 5%, and by 2015, the enrollment rate increased to over 30%.

By the end of 2015, the number of graduate students in China's labor market was close to 7 million. With the rise in the number of graduate enrollments, the number of students appearing for academic proficiency tests and Gaokao tests has also increased, as these examinations are prerequisites for students in China to enroll into the country’s regular higher education system. Students enroll in private tutoring services to get the maximum scores in the tests and to gain a competitive advantage over other students during admissions into premium institutions, thereby fueling the market growth.

Further, the report states that one challenge in market is open educational resources. The competition between providers of tutoring services and mock tests and open-source tutoring service vendors is increasing. Instructional materials developed and delivered by open-source providers are posing a significant threat to vendors, such as New Oriental and TAL Education that provide instructional programs and courses for a fee. Leading tutoring service providers in China spent a significant amount of time and resources to develop licenses and localize tutoring content, with the aim of enriching their product offerings and catering to student requirements. Given the extent of digitization and new modes of learning that allow easy content sharing, the course materials developed by these companies may reach third parties, who can indulge in the inappropriate use of the content. This can hamper the company’s revenue potential and brand image.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
