About UV Curing Systems

UV curing is a high-speed, low-temperature, solventless process that was introduced in the 1960s. Products are cured by polymerization rather than by evaporation or heat. Traditional UV curing systems use mercury arc lamps to produce UV light. This UV light causes adhesives, inks, or coatings to undergo polymerization, converting the ink or coating from a liquid state into a solid state. The coating gets securely fixed to the substrate onto which it is printed. This process is inexpensive and faster compared with heat curing methods. Therefore, industries such as printing, automotive, and food packaging prefer UV curing methods over heat curing methods. Manufacturers have introduced LED-UV curing systems because of the presence of hazardous substances such as mercury in traditional UV curing systems.

The analysts forecast the global UV curing systems market to grow at a CAGR of 14.79% during the period 2017-2021.

New Report Released: – Global UV Curing Systems Market 2017-2021

The author of the report recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global UV curing systems market: Dymax, Nordson, Baldwin Technology, and Heraeus Noblelight America.

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Hanovia, Uvexs, Scheugenpflug, Phoseon Technology, GEW (EC), Miltec UV, and Benford UV.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “One trend in market is increased adoption of UV LEDs in consumer electronics. Compact size, low operational costs, reduced power consumption, easy disposal, ozone-free operation, and the flexibility of LEDs to operate at different wavelengths have made the adoption of LEDs, especially UV LEDs, possible in mobile computing devices, such as smartphones and tablets.”

According to the report, one driver in market is reduction in manufacturing time and lower WIP costs. The reduction in manufacturing cycle time is one of the major factors that drives the UV curing systems market. The reduction in manufacturing cycle time helps to cut manufacturing costs. UV curing systems are efficient and reduce the cycle time compared with conventional methods. For instance, for the manufacturing of electro-optical devices, nearly 50 assemblies are made every month at a total cost of $50,000. This uses approximately 100 adhesive bonds and requires three to four days to settle. The total cycle time of the product is four months. However, for UV curing systems, it takes two hours for the adhesive to dry, reducing the total cycle time from four months to four days. Thus, UV curing is preferred over thermal coating methods.

Further, the report states that one challenges in market is high price of cooling equipment. A UV curing lamp must stay above a minimum light intensity to work in normal conditions. The lamp will not produce light at an energy below this minimum level. UV lamps take time to come up to full power and must be cool before refiring. A high amount of heat is generated, which can distort nonporous substrates. It can also dry out paper/board substrates, which can result in curling or cracking of the substrate. To combat the heat, dichroic filters (used to remove IR energy), water cooling systems, and air cooling systems are used. There are two main types of cooling systems: air cooling and water cooling systems. Water cooling and air cooling systems are used in UV lamps to remove ozone. UV systems also require shutters that allow the lamps to stay on, which makes them bulky.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
