Based in Houston, Texas, Adams Resources and Energy, Inc. (Adams) is a Fortune 1000 company engaged in the production and marketing of crude oil, natural gas and liquid chemical products. It was founded in 1947 and went public in 1974. The Company and its subsidiaries presently have over 700 employees.

Adams operates through three subsidiaries - GulfMark Energy (marketing segment), Service Transport Company (transportation segment) and Adams Resources Exploration Corporation (oil & gas segment). Over the past few years, the company has focused more on its distribution and trucking businesses and has de-emphasized its upstream operations. As of April 2017, the Adams Resources Exploration Corp. subsidiary is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and preparing to sell its ownership stake in about 470 wells located in the Permian Basin, the Haynesville Shale and across the Gulf Coast.

Adams does not expect this Chapter 11 filing by its subsidiary to have a material adverse impact on any of its core businesses as it plans to direct its attention to its core businesses and other business development initiatives. In 2016, Adams started diversifying offerings at the transportation subsidiary by trucking dry bulk materials. GulfMark Energy marketed approximately 73,000 barrels of oil per day during 2016. Adams reported consolidated gross revenues of over $1 billion for the full year ended December 31, 2016.
