About Waterproofing Membranes
A waterproofing membrane is a thin layer of water-resistant material that is laid over a surface of a structure to ensure that water does not seep into any structural slab. A waterproofing membrane includes a mixture of materials that are used to limit water intrusion into structural elements of a building or its closed spaces. Waterproofing membranes consist of rubber, waterproof plastic, or coated fabric materials. The term damp proofing is frequently confused with waterproofing. However, damp proofing is a system intended to resist the transitioning of moisture into a gaseous state, which could affect the building structure gradually.

The analysts forecast the global waterproofing membranes market to grow at a CAGR of 6.82% during the period 2017-2021.

New Report Released: – Global Waterproofing Membranes Market 2017-2021

The author of the report recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global waterproofing membranes market: BASF, Mapei, RPM International, Sika, and GCP Applied Technologies.

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: CETCO, The Dow Chemical Company, RENOLIT, PPG, ARDEX, Weber, Fosroc, Tremco, Normet, Tarmac, RCC Waterproofing, David Ball, 3M, Quaker, Carlisle Coatings & Waterproofing, SOPREMA, Siplast, Johns Manville, GAF, Firestone Building Products, GSE Environmental, Weifang Chenhua Waterproof, Cangzhou Jiansheng Building Waterproof Material, Polymer Technologies, FairMate, W. R. Meadows, Kemper System America, CICO, and Paul Bauder.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “The latest trend gaining momentum in the market is increasing use of crystalline waterproofing membranes. Though the crystalline waterproofing technology has been around for a long time, it is still deemed as "state-of-the-art" technology as the construction industry has recently embraced it as a superior replacement for conventional waterproofing membranes. Crystalline waterproofing practices rely on a technology that turns porous concrete into an impermeable barrier. The result is a structure with reduced cracking, self-sealing, and waterproofing abilities, which provide a robust defense against the corrosion of reinforcing steel and water damage.”

According to the report, one of the major drivers for this market is increasing investments in construction of high-rise buildings. The increase in urbanization requires cities to maximize land use. The rate of urbanization in the recent decades has been exponential. As a result, there is an increase in the construction of taller buildings such as skyscrapers and underground structures around the world, especially in the emerging economies. It is important to waterproof structures to prevent moisture and water from reaching the critical structural areas of the building and causing damage. Bathrooms, kitchens, and laundries are the general areas in buildings that often get damp. In addition, basements, garages, balconies, and roofs are places that are susceptible to damage due to moisture and need to be waterproofed.

Further, the report states that one of the major factors hindering the growth of this market is shortage of skilled labor. The chemical industry technicians less explore the construction chemical industry. Therefore, it is difficult to get skilled labor for industry processes. The result of the application of waterproofing membranes depends mainly on the way or manner in which the chemical has been used. The application of waterproofing membranes requires an excellent technical guidance to get the best results out of such costly products. At present, in several parts of the globe end-users are not skilled in the application of these chemicals. Therefore, they require a technical guidance to develop skills needed for the application.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
