Understand the difference between being a board member and being an attorney rendering legal advice to a nonprofit organization.

Many attorneys volunteer and take pride in their service on nonprofit boards of directors. However, such service must take into consideration both their ethical duties detailed in the Model Rules of Ethics, which have in large part been adopted by many states, and the impact such representation may have on their lives as private persons. This information will identify situations in which an attorneys actions outside of their practice of law crosses over with the ethical requirements of attorneys. The information will also explore the duties of nonprofit board members and how such duties intertwine with their ethical mandates of the rules of professional conduct.
