About E-waste Management

An e-waste management system establishes a value chain to ensure the collection of improperly abandoned or condemned surplus and obsolete or broken electrical or electronic devices, which is called e-waste. Abandoned, unmanaged electronic devices and equipment pollute the environment, making it unsuitable for human habitation. The advancement of technologies has resulted in the reduction of the lifecycle of electronic products, which in turn increases the obsolescence rate of technologies.

The analysts forecast the global e-waste management market to grow at a CAGR of 3.98% during the period 2017-2021.

The author of the report recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global e-waste management market: ERI, SIMS METAL MANAGEMENT, TES, and Umicore.

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: American Retroworks, Aqua Metals, Aurubis, Battery Solutions, Boliden Group, Call2Recycle, Cimelia Resource Recovery, COM2 Recycling Solutions, CRT Recycling, Ecomation, Engitec Technologies, ENIRO-HUB HOLDINGS, Exide Technologies, E-Parisaraa, Global Electric Electronic Processing, Gopher Resource, Gravita India, Johnson Controls, LifeSpan International, MBA Polymers, Raw Materials Company , Rio Battery Company, RSR Corporation, Stena Metall, Terrapure Environmental, Tetronics (International), The Doe Run Company, Tonolli Canada, Triple M Metal LP, and Vinton Batteries.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “The latest trend gaining momentum in the market is growing importance of e-waste recycling. Electronic devices are composed of several materials. These devices require energy and resources to extract materials and manufacture into devices such as refrigerators, televisions, music players, and console or mobile phones. The increasing middle-income population in developing countries and the changing consumer behavior have resulted in a trend, wherein electronic devices are being replaced faster, resulting in resources in devices to be lost if not recycled”

According to the report, one of the major drivers for this market is favorable macroeconomic conditions. Globally, there has been a continuous increase in demand for automobiles and consumer electronics, which is largely due to the rising level of consumer spending. The overall demand for consumer goods leads to a steady economic growth. This demand is accompanied with an increase in the number of supporting industries, thus showing a good overall growth. The economic growth in turn has an impact on customer confidence. Positive economic conditions will likely lead to an increase in the number of goods purchased, thus increasing industrial activities.

Further, the report states that one of the major factors hindering the growth of this market is low awareness of e-waste disposal among consumers and illegal dumping. The consumer electronics industry is highly dynamic in nature and highly competitive. Because of this, manufacturers are under immense pressure to bring in unique product offerings to customers. Rapid growth in science and technology has led to the addition of new functions and development of new designs in electronic goods, which has led to the introduction of new stream of devices every year. This in turn has also shortened the life cycle of products. Once products reach their end of life, consumers discard these devices.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
