About Outage Management Systems

An outage management system (OMS) is a software system that is used to reduce the outage time and allocate the necessary resources for restoring power. OMS is combined with an interactive voice response (IVR) to which the customer calls to report an outage; the system infers the location of the caller. The data are sent to the OMS to map the outage across the geographical area and identify the assets and sections impacted by the outage.

The analysts forecast the global outage management systems market to grow at a CAGR of 5.28% during the period 2017-2021.

New Report Released: – Global Outage Management Systems Market 2017-2021

The author of the report recognizes the following companies as the key players in the global outage management systems market: ABB, General Electric, Open Systems International, Schneider Electric, and Siemens.

Other Prominent Vendors in the market are: Advanced Control Systems, CGI Group, FirstEnergy, Hexagon, Kaihen, Milsoft Utility Solutions, mPower Innovations, National Information Solutions Cooperative, Operation Technology, Oracle, Power System Engineering, Ripley Power & Light Company, SEDC, Silver Spring Networks, Survalent Technology, and Westinghouse Electric.

Commenting on the report, an analyst from the research team said: “One trend in the market is unpredictable nature of natural calamities. The reliability of power systems is highly affected by the unpredictable nature of weather conditions. They are unpredictable and can cause severe damage to power systems as natural calamities such as earthquakes, storms, hurricanes, and tornados annihilate the transmission and distribution infrastructure, causing power outages to last for several days.”

According to the report, one driver in the market is increasing smart meter penetration. One of the main responsibilities of utility is to provide continuous and quality power to its consumers. Utilities are improving their services by upgrading grid infrastructure to enhance grid services and reliability along with enhancing customer experience. Utilities are transitioning to smart grids by installing smart grid devices such as smart meters to understand consumer usage patterns and behavior to develop new products and services.

Further, the report states that one challenge in the market is data management challenges. Traditionally, utilities were aware of an outage upon customers calling IVR and reporting an outage, further to which its impact was mapped. Work orders were issued to the field crew to start restoration activities. However, outages do exist and can cost millions of dollars in losses to both the utilities and businesses that depend on grids.

The study was conducted using an objective combination of primary and secondary information including inputs from key participants in the industry. The report contains a comprehensive market and vendor landscape in addition to a SWOT analysis of the key vendors.
