Fumigation is a technique for pest control wherein a pesticide gas is either infused into the soil or discharged into the air to kill pests. Pests like bed bugs, termites, etc. can be killed by basic fumigation. Soil fumigation is commonly carried to treat the agricultural fields. Agricultural fumigants are infused into the soil and dissolved in the water by moving in between the soil spaces resulting in killing the pests.

Recently, in November 2016, Morrone Bio Innovations Inc., launched a new bio-fumigant in the United States. In June 2014, the gas company. BOC, in conjunction with the CSIRO and LZD Czech Republic, developed a new soil fumigant.
  • In December 2015, the permission deadline for the use of methyl bromide-based product on fiber and cotton seeds, used for exports, was extended by a year. The decision was published in the Union's Official Gazette, through the Act. No. 62.
  • Simultaneously, governments of major countries are continuously placing stringent regulations to reduce the usage of fumigants. Recently, California placed limits on the chloropicrin usage for strawberries and tightened rules on the use of Dow Agro Sciences’ telone fumigant.
