About Ferric Chloride

Ferric chloride (FeCl3), also known as iron (III) chloride is used as a coagulant, mostly in the form of liquid (40% solution), in wastewater and sewage water treatment (domestic and industrial). The compound is also used in the manufacturing of PCBs. It has many industrial uses when compared with ferrous chloride (FeCl2), aslo known as Iron (II) chloride.

Ferric chloride is industrially produced by a high-temperature reaction of dry chlorine with scrap iron (direct chlorination). It is also a byproduct of a few chemical and metallurgical processes such as the chlorinating decomposition of iron-bearing ores of oxides.
