The automotive electric actuator market in Europe is expected to grow at a CAGR of 11.59% to reach $XX billion in 2020. The evolution of mechanical actuators to energy efficient electronic system has brought about a lot of breakthroughs in the operating mechanism of a vehicle. Increasing demand for electric vehicles and luxury vehicles in Europe is a significant propellant in the growth of the market. The sales of electric vehicles in the region has gone up by an average of 35% from 2013. The demand of fuel efficient vehicles in the light of the regulatory standards of EC and EPA has driven the focus to replace the hydraulic components with electric actuators.

With the recovery of the European economy in the last 2 years, the automotive market has gone a significant makeover. The OEMs like Ford, Daimler has started to push premium and luxury cars at a significantly higher price, instead of focusing on selling volumes of mid-price segment vehicles. The OEMs are trying to increase the share of sales to retail and company-fleet buyers, who purchase premium vehicles. The demand of luxury vehicles generated from the Asia Pacific countries is also fuelling the growth of the premium vehicles in the forecast period generating considerable units of exports. Thereby with the growth of the luxury vehicle segment in the region, the move towards the electrification of vehicle components would significantly push the growth of the electric actuator market. In addition, the sale of electric vehicles, which has a significant application of electric actuators for all the operational component in the vehicle, is expected to rise significantly, propelling the growth of the former market during the forecast period.

The objective for the advent of actuators is to reduce CO2 emissions from vehicles of all classes. The engine actuator products for instance, maximise the potential of modern engine management, offering consistency and improved performance. Electric actuators use a power source, such as a battery, to run the actuator. They usually include intricate electrical circuit to program when the actuator operates to facilitate improved performance. The average power usage for the usage of electronic actuator is almost 5 times than that of a pneumatic actuator. Electronic Throttle Valve by Continental is an actuator for the control of the intake air on combustion engines. Available as intelligent actuator (Smart ACV) or with integrated position sensor for external position control (ACV-S).In combination with EGR systems the valve provides control of the intake manifold pressure of diesel engines for precise control of the EGR ratio improving the EGR systems to meet more stringent emission legislation. They also provide Electrical Exhaust Gas recirculation valve which controls the amount of exhaust gas recirculated to combustion (EGR-rate control) to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) as well as fuel consumption with faster response and more control than traditional systems.

The market is segmented on the basis of application, vehicle type and geography. Among application type, fuel injection actuator generated the highest market and EGR actuator would generates the highest growth rate till 2020. Among vehicle type, passenger cars due to their increased domestic demand and production in the region, would continue to dominate the market in the forecast period with more than 70%, especially that of pure electric vehicles. Among the application type, throttle actuator will lead the market with more than 35% of the market share. Continental, Hella, Delphi, VDO, are some of the leaders in the automotive actuator market in Europe.
