Adaptive lighting system is commonly used for the purpose of providing a solution of the glaring effect in a vehicle. Implementing an adaptive lighting system helps to detect whether there is light coming from other vehicles. The Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS) is a part of the adaptive lighting system commonly used in a higher end passenger and luxury vehicles.

The ALS optimizes the distribution of light from the headlights according to the driving and road circumstances. There is no need of a manual operation for switching on/off the head light or rear light. Depending on vehicle speed and steering input, the system projects the low-beam headlights in the direction the driver is intending to travel. Thereby, it saves time and efforts for the driver helping him to concentrate on driving. The system provides an optimized vision to the driver during the night and other poor-sight conditions of the road by adapting the headlight angle and the intensity of the light. The system also helps to switch down light when light comes from the approaching vehicle. The ALS system offers a steady distribution of light unaffected by the vehicle's position by maintaining the illumination axis, which helps to prevent drivers of the other vehicles from getting blinded.

Improvement of visibility in the night time is a concern of critical importance due to the frequency of fatal accidents during the time. Adaptive LED and laser headlights, is one of the major advancement in automotive lighting. Adaptive, or matrix LED systems use a grid of individual LEDs that automatically turns on and off based on where the car is headed and the presence of oncoming vehicles detected on the road. The basic added advantage is the use of laser headlights which provides a focused, long-range beam that can double the reach of the standard automotive high beams. Some of these systems, provide an added advantage using selective lighting to highlight the different objects in the road, which can be traffic signs and road markings, warning or hazard signs or objects that are hardly or not at all be viewed by the driver, such as deer or dimly lit pedestrians. In addition, Audi’s laser headlamp technology employs blue laser diodes that radiate light into a quickly moving mirror comprised of hundreds of thousands of tiny elements. The mirror redirects the laser light to a converter, which converts it to white light and projects it onto the road. At low vehicle speeds, the light is then distributed to a larger projection area, and thereby a wide angle of the road is illuminated.

The market for adaptive front lighting by application has significant adoption in the front, with a share of 78% in the market in Germany. Germany is considered to be one of the vibrant market for LED drivers with significant potential of growth in various sectors including automotive adaptive lighting. With the increased adoption of automotive LED, the market for adaptive lighting is expected to receive significant impetus to grow. Among vehicle type the luxury vehicles has the highest application and would continue to grow at a reasonable rate.
