Asia Pacific oil field services market is estimated to increase from $26.08 billion in 2014 to $48.52 billion by 2022. Although, falling crude oil prices are forecasting a gloomy picture for OFS, service companies are expected to ride out the storm with long term contracts and mergers. Asia Pacific is one of the fastest growing regions for OFS market with increasing exploration and production activities of national oil corporations of China and India.

Oil & gas exploration and production is a complex process and each and every step requires sophisticated technology and equipment. Until the 90s, OFS firms were smaller and did straightforward tasks such as drilling vertical wells. But, over past two decades big oil & gas companies decided to outsource much of the exploration and production work which allowed the OFS firms to grow. OFS companies in turn drove the innovation in oil & gas sector by pioneering technologies like directional drilling and hydraulic fracturing.

The research published on OFS covers a variety of services such as well intervention, wireline logging, coiled tubing, completion, drilling, pressure pumping, waste management and oil country tubular goods.

Drivers

Increasing demand for energy and petro-chemicals, growing investments in oil & gas sector and technological advancements resulting in economically extracting oil from unconventional oil sources like shale plays and oil sands are some of the factors driving the OFS market.

It is forecast that, on its current trajectory, the world population will grow from over 6bn today to 8bn by 2030 and will reach 9bn in 2050, with most of the population growth occurring in the developing world. This is coupled with an ageing population in the developed world and relatively young population in the developing countries. This will create a greater demand pull for resources to the developing world coupled with a shift in the geo-political landscape. GDP per capita is forecast to triple by 2030 in China and India, which will bring their 2.5bn population much higher up the energy ladder.

Challenges

Volatile oil & gas prices, and environmental concerns are severely impairing the OFS market.

This report comprehensively analyzes the Asia Pacific Oil Field Services market by segmenting it based on geography, applications (onshore and offshore) and services (well intervention, wireline logging, coiled tubing, completion, drilling, pressure pumping, waste management and oil country tubular goods); estimates are provided for next six years up to 2022. Key drivers and restraints that are effecting the growth of this market were discussed in detail. The study also elucidates on competitive landscape and key market players.
