When the piston moves down, it creates a pressure for valve to open which allows air to enter. By further movement the same gas is compressed by the piston and later released by the other valve.

Tandem piston compressors produce a continuous pulse of air. Due its high efficiency, it is used in multiple sectors including refrigeration, air cooling and air separation. It is also used in chemical, food and beverage sector. This compressor is also used in chemical, petro chemical and natural gas cooling facilities.

Since it consists of very fast moving internal rotors even a small object can damage it considerably. Since the compressor involves multiple tandem operations it also makes it prone to reliability problems.
