The vegan diet is given preference among a large section of the developed economies such as the European Union. While animal and soy proteins continue to dominate, pea protein is now breaking into the mainstream as a serious plant-based contender. Across the globe there is a regulatory void on the use of pea proteins in pet food and acceptance by regulatory agencies is not as straightforward. However, in Europe and other regions of the world, there are no indications that pea proteins are unacceptable.

Europe is the second largest market after North America with over 33% of the global market share. Convenience food sectors with high demand in the bakery sector, spiked demand for functional foods and health-conscious population contributes to the demand for protein-rich foods, especially pea protein and related ingredients in the region. This kind of demand influx is driving the market towards growth. The market is gradually expanding as pea proteins are gluten-free and fat-free.
