South America Soy Beverages Market Dynamics

The demand for soy proteins is increasing primarily, because of a gradual shift in people lifestyles and dietary habits and the rising health consciousness in the developing and developed regions. The popularity of soy beverages can be attributed to their increased availability and the scientific facts that prove the many health benefits of soy, which includes lowering blood cholesterol and reduction of the risk of certain cancers.

Soybean-based foods, apart from being a complete source of protein, also contain other important nutrients, such as fiber, B vitamins and Omega3 fatty acids. All these nutrients are present in soy beverages and thus, they play an important role in the growth of infants, fetal growth in pregnant women and have various other health benefits for children and adults alike.

However, recent studies on the harmful effects of soy and its derivatives are hindering the growth of the market.

Brazil is the world second largest producer of soybeans while Argentina is at the fourth position. Bolivia and Uruguay are also major producers of soybeans. Brazil has the highest market in the region, with a value of USD 314.14 million as per 2015, followed by Argentina.

South America Soy Beverages Market Segmentation

The soy beverages market can be segmented into soy milk and yogurt smoothies. The soy yogurt smoothie is generally low-fat and hence more preferred over regular smoothies. Soy milk contains little digestible calcium as it is bound to the bean. Studies show that soy consumption is associated with a reduction in low-density lipoprotein and triglycerides.
