SSD caching, first introduced by Intel as a smart response technology provides improved performance for computers that use traditional hard drives. The technology reduces cost and time to run an application as SSDs are faster. These benefits are now being realized by IT professionals and they are looking for various ways to take advantage of SSD caching techniques. SSD caching requires a combination of SSD drive and supporting software to perform the required functioning.

According to OECD, the external financial flows to African economies are increasing and so is its population. In terms of employment, the growth has been good but the rate of job creation remains a bit slow. The internet penetration in the Middle East has increased from 48.1% since last year December, during which the number (number of internet users) stood at 113.6 million. While the internet penetration in Africa was about 26.5% last year, with the number of internet users being 297.8 million.

SSD drives are costly, hence a combination of it needs to be used with traditional hard drives to enhance performance efficiency. The market is still growing and many enterprises deploying these solutions to cut down costs and improve efficiency.

These enterprises are required to analyze huge data sets coming from various data sources. Using SSD solution makes the task easier without investing too much in high-powered drives and solutions.

In 2012, Intel also introduced the 313 (Hawley Creek) caching SSD series (20 and 24 GB), advertised as also suitable for use ultra-books.

As of 2012, Smart Response Technology (SRT), also the other name for SSD caching, was limited to using at most 64 GB for caching, meaning that on larger SSDs, the rest remains unused by the cache, though it is available to be used for other purposes.

Some of the major vendors manufacturing SSD drives and solutions mentioned in the report are Intel, OCZ Synapse, Sandisk, Mushkin, Samsung, Transcend and AMD.


The flexibility of using the same SSD in varying conditions and enhances user experience too. More companies now are moving towards using SSDs to process and analyze their huge data sets that aren’t possible with the conventional HDDs. The increase in the penetration of smartphones and laptops is also one of the major contributors to the SSD caching market demand.


The SSD caching technology is bit expensive and so, it can only be used in conjunction with the HDDs.
